I started life in Devon
where I grew up in the village of Kingsteignton. From an early age I was
involved in as many things as possible. I attended Brownies and Guides and
became a Guide Leader; I learnt the Piano and attempted Ballet; I took up and
learned to coach trampoline and took part in the gruelling event of Ten Tors (a
two day trek across Dartmoor 35 miles long one year, 45 the next and 55 the year
after). At school I was a scientist- taking Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology
at A level. I am fascinated by how things work, living things in particular.
Underlying all of this was a love and natural talent for art. I took the Art A
level in my spare time around the other subjects and have always kept it as a
hobby.
Following a degree in
Bioveterinary Science, which brought me to Liverpool, and two years working as a
research assistant I was keen to make time for my art work and so this business
was born. My interest in science, particularly animal science, has given me a
good understanding of animals, their character and structure. And this I try to
bring through in my work. Painting these animals is immensely rewarding and I
hope that I provide an accurate representation of their form and character with
more life to it than a photograph can give.
